The Project.

Robert Craighead, the Climate Change Manager at Bassetlaw District Council, was tasked with initiating an extensive retrofit project to improve energy efficiency in a series of properties within Rhodesia.

Over the course of two years, 35 privately owned homes in the village were upgraded with various energy-saving measures, including External Wall Insulation (EWI), Loft Insulation, Soffits, Fascias, and Solar Panels.

The project was completed in three phases and funded by various government programs such as the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme, the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG), and D2N2 devolution funding.

These grants were available to qualifying residents, with Nottingham Energy Partnership collaborating with Bassetlaw District Council to determine eligibility.

Westville was selected to manage the installation of all energy efficiency measures, overseeing the entire process from design to completion.

Challenges.

Despite the project’s overall success, there are always a few challenges along the way that come to test us. One issue arose when Western Power needed to temporarily unclip and reattach major power cables to facilitate work. This led to some delays and extended lead times, which needed to be managed collaboratively. Additionally, discovering bats in one loft required careful handling and necessitated compliance with wildlife protection regulations. Both incidents were supervised professionally, ensuring the project remained on schedule.

Having worked together for several years, this team consistently delivers exceptional quality, no matter how challenging the task.

During this project, we engaged with Haggonfields Primary School to discuss the hot topic of climate change.

Following work on the third phase of property renovations in the village, we decided to involve the village school children in learning how this work is helping save energy and protecting our planet. Discover the work involved with the fantastic students at Haggonfields in our YouTube video
