As part of the Midlands Net Zero Hub’s Devolution project, Newark and Sherwood District Council retrofitted five social housing properties with energy-efficient upgrades. The improvements included insulation, new windows, air source heat pumps (ASHP), and solar panels. Four properties received external wall insulation with a brick-effect render to meet planning requirements, while one had cavity wall insulation.
The project was coordinated by Daryl Cornwell of Newark and Sherwood District Council and Westville was contracted for the insulation, windows and ventilation.
Completed in summer 2024, the project aimed to enhance energy efficiency whilst ensuring a smooth experience for residents.
Coordinating multiple contractors & installers presented a key challenge during this project. Ensuring smooth collaboration between teams required careful scheduling and clear communication.
To overcome this, Westville worked closely with project lead Daryl Cornwell to align timelines and minimise disruption to residents. Regular coordination with all parties involved helped streamline installation phases and maintain efficiency throughout the project.
Contracts Manager & EWI Installer
The project was managed by Kevin Hurd, Contracts Manager, who coordinated the program and installations.
Doru Ghergu and his team were the EWI installers, once again demonstrating their consistent high standard of work and efficiency of completing this with minimal resident disruption
"Our house looks and feels so much better now. It’s lovely and warm!" - Miss P | Station Road
"Couldn't fault the workmen, they were all pleasant and explained what they were doing. Very hard working and cleaned up after themselves. My house looks very posh now, but still fits in with the street by having the brick effect render.“ - Mrs P | School Lane
"Brilliant job, looks amazing. The installers were prompt and polite. It's made such a big difference, particularly in the bad weather. We're warm all the time and saving money on our bills.“ - Mrs R | School Lane
"The insulation has made a lot of difference, even when the heating isn’t on I can feel the house is warmer, which is saving money on my energy bills." - Miss C | Norwell Road
Following work done in Newark & Sherwood, the total estimated annual energy bill savings amount to an incredible £7,640!*
This Devolution project will save over 33,425kg of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year. That’s the equivalent of stopping the emissions from 17,098 Litres of petrol being burned every year!**
We’ve had the opportunity to work on some inspiring projects with some fantastic residential clients, businesses and local authorities.
